On Sunday, October 27, 2024, Osman Mejalli, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, emphasized the urgent need to support and enhance the role of the Central Bank in Aden to navigate the ongoing financial crisis and the depreciation of the local currency.
Mejalli made these remarks during a meeting with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm-Kammoun., where they discussed France's supportive stance towards the Council in achieving peace and bolstering the economy, according to the official Saba News Agency.
He stated, "The tensions in the region are caused by Iran. The situation in Gaza is a stain on the conscience of the world, and the destruction wrought by the Houthis on Yemeni homes, mosques, schools, and hospitals mirrors the Israeli devastation in Gaza and Lebanon."
Mejalli noted that the Yemeni public is aware that the Houthis are exploiting the plight of the people of Gaza to evade the needs of their citizens, while continuing to pursue foreign agendas, targeting maritime navigation, attacking ships, and terrorizing the Yemeni population.
He highlighted the "tragic" humanitarian situation in areas controlled by the Iran-aligned Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization, where citizens suffer from a lack of basic services, rising prices, and widespread poverty.
Mejalli stressed the need for development, the eradication of terrorist groups, and correcting the imbalances caused by the international community's failure to facilitate the liberation of the province and port of Hudaydah.
He praised the clear role of France in prioritizing the interests of the Yemeni community, as well as their freedom and dignity.
In response, Ambassador Corm-Kammoun reaffirmed France's commitment to working with international partners and coalition countries to support Yemen, the Presidential Council, and the government in overcoming economic and humanitarian challenges, while contributing to peacebuilding and development in the country.
