On Monday, October 28, 2024, the British maritime security company Ambrey reported two explosions near the Yemeni region of Dhubab.

The company stated that a commercial vessel had reported the explosions occurring approximately 14 nautical miles southwest of the coastal city of Dhubab in the Taiz governorate, located in southwestern Yemen.

Earlier today, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) indicated that it had received reports of an incident occurring 25 nautical miles south of Al-Mokha, Yemen, noting that the vessel and its crew were safe and en route to their next port of call.

As of now, it remains unclear whether the two incidents are related, according to reports from Reuters.

Since November 2023, the Iran-aligned Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization, has continued its attacks using rockets and drones against commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden.

These attacks have led to increased marine insurance costs and prompted many international shipping companies to opt for the significantly longer route around the southern tip of Africa.

In response to the Houthi threat and to safeguard maritime navigation, the United States formed a multinational coalition in December 2023. U.S. forces have periodically conducted strikes against military targets associated with the Houthis.
