On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, Reuters reported that an attempt by the Iran-backed Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization, to target a Liberian-flagged commercial ship operated by Greece in the Red Sea near the coast of Yemen has failed.

According to a maritime security source cited by the agency, the Houthis launched three strikes at the vessel, but all three missed their target.

On Monday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the attack on the ship, known as the "Motaro," was part of the group's efforts to impose a maritime blockade on Israel.

The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Monday that it received information regarding three explosions linked to the incident, which occurred approximately 25 nautical miles south of the port of Mocha in Yemen.

Since November of last year, the Houthi group has carried out nearly 100 attacks on ships traversing the Red Sea, a vital route for global trade. They have sunk two vessels, captured a third, and killed at least four sailors.
