On November 3, 2024, Sultan Al-Aradah, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, urged the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen to take a more active role in facilitating the completion of a comprehensive prisoner exchange deal, advocating for a "whole-for-whole" approach.

Al-Aradah made his remarks during a meeting with Faria Radi, head of ICRC operations in Yemen. They discussed the committee's interventions and projects, exploring ways to expand their humanitarian partnership in the upcoming phase, as reported by the official Yemeni News Agency Saba.

The governor emphasized the importance of the ICRC visiting detainees in Houthi prisons to assess their humanitarian and health conditions, provide necessary support, and ensure they can communicate with their families.

He commended the ICRC's humanitarian efforts across various essential sectors and its previous roles in past prisoner exchange operations in Yemen.

Al-Aradah also welcomed the ICRC's plans to expand its humanitarian interventions in liberated provinces, particularly in Marib, which accommodates over 60% of the country’s internally displaced persons.

He stressed the need for humanitarian partners to focus on implementing sustainable, developmental projects that alleviate citizens' suffering and contribute to recovery.

In response, Faria Radi acknowledged Al-Aradah’s support for the ICRC’s efforts to facilitate its humanitarian work and strengthen its partnership with the local authority in Marib and nationally. She updated him on her meetings with several government ministers to discuss collaboration on various humanitarian issues the ICRC is addressing in Yemen, noting that her visit to Marib aims to assess the committee's projects and interventions and explore possibilities for expansion based on local priorities.
