The Yemeni government condemned the recent violence in several villages in Sudan's Al-Jazeera state on November 3, 2024, emphasizing the urgent need to return to peaceful negotiations in accordance with the Jeddah Declaration.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Yemeni government expressed deep concern over the developments in Sudan, as reported by the official Yemeni News Agency, Saba.

The statement denounced the acts of violence in the eastern villages of Al-Jazeera, which have resulted in numerous civilian casualties, injuries, and the displacement of others, constituting violations of international and humanitarian laws.

The Yemeni government reiterated the importance of resuming peace talks as outlined in the Jeddah Declaration, aiming to secure safety, stability, and territorial integrity for the Sudanese people.

Recent reports indicate that Rapid Support Forces have carried out retaliatory campaigns in eastern Al-Jazeera, affecting over 30 villages and resulting in indiscriminate killings, torture, rape, forced displacement, and property theft.

This wave of violence follows the defection of Rapid Support Forces commander Abu Aqila Kikel, who joined the Sudanese army, leading to significant upheaval in the region.

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in a conflict that has claimed more than 20,000 lives and displaced nearly 10 million people, according to United Nations estimates.
