The Yemeni Ministry of Interior reported on November 3, 2024, that traffic accidents resulted in the deaths of 62 individuals and left 257 others injured in government-controlled areas during October.

According to official statistics published by the Security Media Center of the Ministry of Interior, October witnessed a total of 357 traffic incidents, resulting in 62 fatalities and 257 injuries, including 115 severe cases.

The reported incidents included 228 vehicle collisions, 86 pedestrian accidents, 29 vehicle rollovers, nine falls from vehicles, three collisions with fixed objects, and three vehicle fires.

The financial losses from vehicle damage were estimated at 89 million Yemeni rials, while the overall costs related to human and social losses more than doubled this figure.

Traffic police reports in the liberated provinces attributed over 93% of accidents to driver errors, while the remaining 7% were linked to road conditions, environmental factors, vehicle maintenance issues, and other human-related factors.

The report identified several contributing factors to the increase in accidents, including neglect of traffic signals and guidelines, inexperienced young drivers, misjudgment of risks, disregard for traffic laws, and poor handling of vehicle conditions and loads. Additionally, issues with motorcycle operation and pedestrian negligence were highlighted as significant concerns.
