On November 4, 2024, Ali Al-Fatimi, Deputy Governor of Marib province, emphasized the importance of raising awareness and responsibilities to prevent errors and unsafe medication practices. His remarks came during the launch of the Global Week for Medication Safety, which will run until November 10. The initiative is organized by the local branch of the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies in collaboration with the National Center for Pharmacovigilance and Medication Safety.
Al-Fatimi highlighted the necessity of collective efforts to protect individuals from the dangers of medications and misuse, aiming to achieve the highest levels of drug safety and efficacy.
Adel Al-Qardahi, Director General of the local branch of the Supreme Authority for Medicines, noted that the activities intend to “raise awareness about the safe use of medications and monitor their safety,” especially considering the excessive use of medications and antibiotics by citizens without medical consultation.
The awareness campaigns will target community gatherings, healthcare workers, emergency centers, pharmacies, and pharmaceutical companies to enhance understanding of the importance of reporting any side effects related to medication use.
Participants in the event underscored the need for a pharmaceutical policy to regulate medication use and circulation, stressing the shared responsibility among all official and unofficial entities in promoting community awareness regarding the dangers of indiscriminate medication use.
