The Yemeni Embassy in Cairo announced on November 6, 2024, that the issue of Yemeni school closures was a key topic during the meeting between President Rashad Al-Alimi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi.

In a statement shared on the embassy's Facebook page, the embassy confirmed that the topic of closing Yemeni schools has been closely monitored by both the embassy and the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs in recent months.

Due to the significance of this issue, it was prioritized during Al-Alimi's discussions with Sisi on the sidelines of the World Urban Forum. The embassy emphasized the Yemeni government's commitment to engaging with relevant authorities in Egypt to find suitable solutions that ensure the continuation of education for the Yemeni community.

The statement also highlighted efforts to facilitate the return of over 6,000 Yemeni students to their classes, while ensuring that the schools comply with the host country's regulations.

Reports from Yemeni sources in Cairo indicated that Egyptian authorities have begun closing Yemeni schools in various locations, particularly in Giza. According to these sources, a total of 15 schools were shut down, affecting more than 6,000 Yemeni students living in Egypt.

Authorities attributed the closures to the schools' lack of proper licenses, while some believe the issue stems from the schools teaching the Yemeni curriculum instead of the Egyptian one.

On November 4, Al-Alimi met with President Sisi during the 12th session of the World Urban Forum to discuss developments regarding Yemen, regional issues, and their economic and security implications, including developments in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as well as efforts to reduce tensions and restore stability and security for international navigation.
