The National Coalition of Yemeni Political Parties and Components convened its first meeting on November 7, 2024, emphasizing the importance of fostering communication among political forces to establish a unified national front aimed at achieving national aspirations.
The meeting, held in the temporary capital of Aden, was chaired by Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, the Chairman of the Shura Council and the head of the coalition. Representatives from various political parties and components were in attendance.
In a statement distributed to the media, Bin Daghr welcomed the attendees, expressing gratitude for their efforts in founding the coalition and acknowledging the support of allies and friends for the Yemeni legitimacy in various forums.
The meeting addressed the deteriorating economic situation and the decline in essential services, highlighting their direct impact on citizens' lives. Bin Daghr noted the urgent need for swift action to develop immediate solutions to these challenges.
Additionally, the coalition discussed organizing its structure, establishing branches in various provinces, and setting mechanisms for future meetings.
On November 5, 2024, the National Coalition was officially launched in Aden, opposing the Iran-backed Houthi group, which is internationally classified as a terrorist organization, under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed bin Daghr.
The coalition, which comprises over 21 parties, affirmed its commitment to the constitution, existing laws, national, regional, and international references, political plurality, peaceful power transition, justice, equal citizenship, consensus, partnership, and transparency.
In its declaration, the coalition outlined a political program aimed at achieving several objectives, including restoring the state, unifying national forces to confront rebellion, and resolving the Southern issue as a key to addressing national concerns, with a specific framework for a final political solution.
While the Southern Transitional Council and its supporters opposed the announcement, the coalition received a warm welcome from the recognized Yemeni government and other supporting political entities, garnering significant positive responses on social media from politicians, writers, and activists.
