The internationally recognized Yemeni government held an extensive meeting on November 7, 2024, to evaluate a comprehensive economic rescue plan aligned with its priorities of restoring state authority, ending the Houthi insurgency, and achieving peace.

The extraordinary meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak in the temporary capital of Aden, focused on recent economic, financial, monetary, and living conditions, according to Yemen's official news agency Saba.

During the session, the government reviewed the draft of the economic rescue plan, enriching it with discussions and comments aimed at development and alignment with ongoing governmental reform programs, preparing it for approval and submission to the Presidential Leadership Council.

To facilitate this, the government decided to form a ministerial committee tasked with studying the plan, integrating feedback, and resubmitting it to the council for discussion within two weeks.

The committee, chaired by the Minister of Finance and including members from various ministries such as Planning, Industry, Electricity, Transport, Civil Service, Oil, and representatives from the Central Bank and the Prime Minister's Office, is charged with aligning the plan with the government's reform agenda and economic recovery strategy.

The meeting emphasized the necessity of addressing the root causes of the catastrophic economic situation, exacerbated by Houthi attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes, and identifying areas where support is needed from international development partners.

Ministers reported on challenges related to fuel supply for electricity stations in Aden, detailing efforts to resolve these issues and the urgent measures needed to stabilize electricity services and ensure continued water supply for citizens.

In this context, the government confirmed the provision of emergency supplies for electricity stations and ongoing efforts to secure additional quantities to ensure stable service.

The council instructed the Ministers of Water and Electricity to coordinate efforts to secure the operational needs of water wells, including electricity and fuel, to prevent interruptions in water supply for the residents of Aden.

Additionally, the council received updates on the results of campaigns targeting illegal currency exchange operators in Aden and liberated provinces, as well as efforts to control prices and address price manipulation to alleviate the impact on citizens' livelihoods. The council emphasized the continuation of these campaigns and coordination among security forces and relevant judicial authorities.
