Local sources reported on November 8, 2024, that a young man was injured by the explosion of a landmine, remnants of the Iran-aligned Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization, in southern Al-Hudaydah Province.
According to Yemen’s Ministry of Defense website, September Net, the landmine detonated while the unnamed twenty-something was riding a motorcycle in the "Akda" area, south of Al-Jarahi District. The explosion occurred as he was transporting household furniture after being forcibly displaced by the Houthis, along with residents from his village and four neighboring communities.
United Nations reports indicate that the Houthi group has planted approximately two million landmines in various areas under its control, resulting in over 20,000 civilian casualties, the majority of whom are women and children. rights organizations have accused the Houthis of turning Yemen into the largest minefield in history, demanding the group provide maps of the landmines they have laid to aid demining organizations.
