On November 10, 2024, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Lieutenant General Fahd Al-Sulami, the commander of the Joint Forces, at the Joint Forces Command headquarters in Riyadh. This meeting occurred just hours after the tragic incident in Sayun, which resulted in the deaths of two coalition officers.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and the ongoing support provided by the Joint Forces to ensure the security of the Yemeni people. Al-Alimi expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continuous assistance to Yemen.

Earlier on November 9, Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, reported that a cowardly attack within the coalition forces' camp in Sayun resulted in the death of a Saudi officer and an NCO, with another officer sustaining injuries.

Al-Maliki explained that the attack occurred on the evening of November 8 at a coalition camp supporting the Yemeni military in training and assisting the First Military Region in combating terrorism and smuggling, while also providing humanitarian and developmental support in Yemen.

He noted that the assault was perpetrated by an individual affiliated with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, emphasizing that this individual does not represent the honorable members of the ministry who appreciate the positive role of the coalition forces in supporting Yemen’s legitimacy and humanitarian efforts.

Al-Maliki stated that the Joint Forces will coordinate with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense to investigate the motives behind the attack and to apprehend the perpetrator for justice.

On November 8, sources and activists reported that two Saudi officers were killed and another was injured by gunfire from Sergeant Muhammad Saleh Al-Arousi in the First Military Region in Sayun. Security and military operations are currently underway to apprehend the suspect, who fled the scene after the incident.
