An extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit held on November 11, 2024, in Riyadh, has called on all nations to impose a ban on the export or transfer of arms and ammunition to Israel.
According to the final communiqué issued at the summit, participating leaders decided to mobilize international support to suspend Israel's participation in the United Nations General Assembly and its affiliated entities.
The statement, reported by the London-based newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, also urged efforts to gain support for Palestine's full membership in the United Nations. The leaders called on the Security Council to mandate Israel to cease its illegal policies that threaten regional peace and security.
The communiqué strongly condemned "the ongoing and relentless Israeli aggression" against Lebanon and demanded an immediate ceasefire. It accused the Israeli military of committing "genocide" in Gaza, denouncing "horrific and shocking crimes" against Palestinians, including references to "mass graves, torture, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, looting, and ethnic cleansing," particularly in Northern Gaza.
The summit called for comprehensive support and international protection for the Palestinian people and the State of Palestine, emphasizing the need for Palestinian national unity and effective governance across all occupied territories, including Gaza and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to full Palestinian sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem, declaring it the eternal capital of Palestine, and emphasized that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a "red line." They condemned Israeli actions targeting Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem, urging the international community to pressure Israel to halt these activities.
In late October, Saudi Arabia called for a follow-up Arab-Islamic summit to address the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinian territories and Lebanon, as well as the current developments in the region. This summit is seen as a continuation of the joint Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh on November 11, 2023.
