On the sidelines of the Arab-Islamic summit held on November 11, 2024, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Arab League, and the African Union signed a document establishing a trilateral cooperation mechanism to support the Palestinian cause.

According to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry released on November 12, the agreement was signed in the presence of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and representatives from various Arab and Islamic nations.

The purpose of the mechanism is to "intensify joint efforts among the three organizations and enhance collaborative work regarding the Palestinian issue," the statement noted.

The OIC comprises 57 Arab and Islamic countries, some of which are also members of the Arab League, which includes 22 nations, and the African Union, which has 55 member states.

The Arab-Islamic summit also called on the UN Security Council to intervene to establish a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, according to the final communiqué issued during the event.
