Local authorities in Marib Governorate, northeastern Yemen, inaugurated nine water projects and launched six more on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The projects, located in Marib City and Al-Wadi districts, represent a total investment of $1,317,704, funded by UNICEF.

Deputy Governor Dr. Abdu Rabbu Miftah praised UNICEF's humanitarian interventions in Marib and the organization's role in implementing sustainable projects that address the water needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. He emphasized that these projects will provide thousands of families with access to safe and clean water.

Muftah stressed the importance of focusing on sustainable projects that contribute to recovery, alleviate suffering, and enhance the capacity of the water sector to reach a wider population. He reviewed the project components, which included elevated concrete water tanks of varying sizes, pipelines, distribution networks, well drilling, control units, and security rooms.

The inauguration was attended by the General Director of the Marib Water and Sanitation Authority, Hussein bin Jalal; the General Director of the Rural Water Authority, Dr. Ali Hadhal; UNICEF's Water Cluster Coordinator for Yemen, Frederic Patgi; and the UNICEF Marib office director.
