On November 13, 2024, the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training in the internationally recognized Yemeni government announced the final exam results for the 2023/2024 academic year, reporting a pass rate of 76% for students in technical and vocational institutes across liberated governorates.
During a press conference held in Aden, the temporary capital, Deputy Minister Abdul Rabah Al-Mahouli stated that the success rate was commendable despite the challenging economic conditions resulting from the Houthi coup and the subsequent destruction of technical education institutions.
A total of 3,336 students registered for the exams, with 2,539 successfully passing, while 35 students were disqualified from taking the tests due to non-compliance with entry requirements.
Al-Mahouli noted that this year featured 60 specializations in formal education, covering technical specialties, vocational secondary education, and vocational training diplomas. Additionally, there were 263 theoretical subjects in the exams across all levels.
He emphasized the need for concerted efforts to address the negative accumulations affecting this type of education and called for the provision of necessary resources to ensure quality training for graduates, which would help reduce unemployment and combat poverty through small project development.
Dr. Ahmed Keleb, the ministry's Undersecretary for Standards and Quality, reported that the pass rate for the technical diploma was 68.96%, with 1,901 students taking the exam and 1,415 passing. The vocational secondary education pass rate stood at 76.12%, with 378 students taking the exam and 311 passing. The vocational training diploma had a pass rate of 78.89%, with 1,021 candidates and 812 successful students.
