On November 13, 2024, human rights sources reported that the Houthi group, classified internationally as a terrorist organization, set fire to the home of a citizen in Ibb Governorate, central Yemen, following critical remarks made by his son regarding the group's actions.

The organization "Musawaah for Rights and Freedoms" stated that it received reports of the incident involving Hamoud Hamoud Hussein Abadi Al-Rimi, a 60-year-old resident of Bani Ma'zab village in the Al-Qafr district. According to the organization, the Houthi militants burned the house on Saturday due to social media posts made by Al-Rimi's son, which criticized the group's practices and violations against locals.

The fire destroyed the entire home along with its furnishings, and the elderly man sustained severe burns while attempting to extinguish the flames engulfing his property.

In its statement, Musawaah condemned the act, describing it as part of a systematic Houthi campaign aimed at intimidating and silencing any dissenting voices that criticize their actions in Ibb and other areas under their control.

The organization characterized the incident as a serious violation of human rights and freedom of expression, protected under both local and international laws, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which prohibit acts of intimidation and violence against individuals based on their opinions.

Musawaah called on the United Nations and the international community to condemn this heinous crime and exert real pressure on the Houthis to cease their oppressive practices and grave violations of citizens' rights in all areas under their control.
