On November 14, 2024, local and human rights sources reported that the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization, arrested a Yemeni citizen in Ibb Governorate for photographing natural landscapes and a community-initiated road.

According to sources speaking to Barran Press, the individual, identified as Salah Al-Zuqari, was detained while on a walk with a friend to capture images of the countryside and mountains. The Houthis confiscated his mobile phone during the arrest, and Al-Zuqari allegedly faced assault by the group's militants in the Al-Shaar district.

Al-Zuqari, an expatriate who recently returned from the United States, was reportedly targeted even though the location where he was filming is not a military area but rather a community setting with newly paved roads.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the repression of free expression and the increasing scrutiny faced by individuals in regions controlled by the Houthis.
