On November 14, 2024, the Specialized Penal Appeals Prosecution in Marib announced the destruction of 1,518 kilograms of hashish, valued at over $60 million, in what officials have described as the largest drug destruction operation in the province.

According to the prosecution, the destruction was carried out in compliance with court rulings related to 13 cases of drug trafficking and smuggling, which were adjudicated in 2022 and 2023.

Mohammed Ali Al-Haidari, the Chief Prosecutor, stated that the cases were referred by local security forces after the drugs were intercepted while en route to Houthi-controlled areas. He emphasized that the Houthis are known to utilize drug trafficking as a lucrative trade to finance their conflict against the Yemeni people.

This operation highlights ongoing efforts by Yemeni authorities to combat drug trafficking and its links to the broader conflict in the region.
