On November 17, 2024, health authorities in Marib province launched a health awareness campaign regarding the cholera outbreak, which has resulted in 88 confirmed deaths and hundreds of suspected cases since the beginning of the year. The initiative will take place in over 100 schools, targeting approximately 36,000 students.

The campaign, organized by the Public Health and Population Office in collaboration with the Education Office, aims to disseminate critical health messages related to cholera to students in the cities of Marib, Wadi, and Harib, thereby reaching the broader community as part of a comprehensive strategy to combat the epidemic.

Ahmad Al-Abadi, the director of the Health Office in Marib, reported that since the start of the year, the province has recorded 18 confirmed deaths, 70 confirmed cases, and 1,280 suspected cases of cholera. He emphasized the importance of this awareness campaign in schools and called for collective efforts from officials and the community to ensure its success in combating this deadly disease.

The five-day campaign will be executed by 90 health education volunteers, overseen by the National Center for Health Media and Education, with funding from the World Health Organization and the United Nations Emergency Fund.

A recent UN report indicated that cholera cases in Yemen have surged to approximately 219,000 since the beginning of the year, with the majority of cases occurring in areas controlled by the Houthis. The report, released by UNICEF and the Water and Sanitation Cluster in Yemen, documented over 219,000 suspected cases of acute watery diarrhea and cholera from January 1 to October 20.
