On November 19, 2024, an analytical report revealed that the Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization, has made 1,024 alterations to school curricula in areas under its control. These changes incorporate the group’s sectarian ideologies and discriminatory beliefs.

The report was presented during an intellectual forum organized by the "Qalam for Thought and Culture" Foundation in Marib. It highlighted that the Houthi modifications affected 91 textbooks across primary education levels. The analysis found that the Houthis added 162 new lessons while removing 187 lessons that were officially adopted in 2014, prior to the group’s takeover of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a.

The foundation noted that this analysis represents only a small portion of the broader manipulation occurring in the educational materials, which it claims undermines foundational religious, cultural, historical, and national principles. The group has systematically erased these principles and replaced them with ideological "landmines" that contradict the values held by Yemenis.

The study, conducted over five years, revealed an extensive insertion of sectarian terminology by the Houthis, including phrases like "Signs of Guidance," "Faith Identity," "Quranic Culture," and "Ahl al-Bayt." The distortions predominantly impacted humanities subjects: the Quran, Islamic Education, Arabic Language, and Social Studies. The Houthi group has imposed its doctrinal and sectarian views in ways that provoke concern among Yemenis committed to their religious values.

Additionally, the Houthis have promoted their leaders in the curricula, replacing Yemeni national symbols with those of the group and encouraging the recruitment of children.

The forum urged the Yemeni leadership, represented by the President and members of the Presidential Leadership Council, to fulfill their duty in safeguarding the minds of Yemeni youth from these harmful ideas. It called for an urgent national conference to preserve Yemeni identity.

The forum also urged the Ministry of Education to convene a high-level curriculum committee to incorporate topics that counter Houthi falsehoods and reinforce religious and national values. It recommended expediting the implementation of virtual education systems to provide alternative opportunities for students, allowing them to avoid Houthi-imposed educational conditions.

Moreover, it called upon parents in Houthi-controlled areas to protect their children and monitor the "myths and falsehoods" being taught in schools. The forum urged international organizations to condemn the sectarian and classist ideologies imposed by the Houthis on Yemeni students.
