President Rashad Al-Alimi of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council on Wednesday lauded new British support for the Yemeni Coast Guard, describing it as a testament to the strong relationship between the two countries.
The British Embassy announced on Tuesday a new aid package for the Yemeni Coast Guard, including high-speed patrol boats, training, and logistical assistance. This support, the embassy stated, reflects close cooperation with the Yemeni government to combat piracy and smuggling activities that threaten Yemen's and the region's security and stability.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), President Al-Alimi framed the British support as part of coordinated efforts with regional allies and international partners to counter piracy, terrorism, arms smuggling, and organized crime.
He also noted the timing of the announcement, which coincided with a roundtable discussion on peace and security for Yemeni women, sponsored by Princess Sophie and the United Nations. This event, Al-Alimi highlighted, underscores ongoing efforts to restore state institutions, rebuild Yemen, and advance its progress.
