On November 21, 2024, Lieutenant General Sultan al-Aradah, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, emphasized the need for the international community to adopt urgent measures and political and economic decisions to curb the activities of the Houthi movement, which is classified as a terrorist organization. He highlighted the group's destabilizing impact on local, regional, and international security.

This statement was made during a meeting with Anthony Hayward, the military advisor to the UN envoy for Yemen, and his accompanying delegation, who are currently visiting Marib. The discussions focused on the ongoing military escalation by the Houthi militias and its implications for the UN's peace efforts in Yemen.

According to the Yemeni news agency Saba, al-Aradah detailed the various forms of Houthi escalation in their ongoing conflict with the Yemeni people, including military, economic, social, and ideological dimensions. He pointed out the group's systematic targeting of national identity and their attempts to undermine the values of the Yemeni people.

The Governor reiterated the commitment of the political and military leadership to support UN efforts and all regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive and just peace in Yemen that meets the aspirations of its citizens for security and stability.

He also called for necessary support for the legitimate government to help it regain control over the entire national territory, enforce law and order, and restore state institutions. Additionally, he urged assistance to address the severe economic and humanitarian crises caused by Houthi actions.

In response, UN advisor Hayward affirmed the international community's dedication to achieving security and stability in Yemen, supporting the peace process, and alleviating the humanitarian situation. He reiterated the UN's commitment to providing necessary support to the Yemeni government and facilitating communication with various parties to ensure compliance with peace agreements.
