On November 21, 2024, the local authority in Marib Governorate, northeastern Yemen, inaugurated a project to equip and furnish the Community College in the province, with funding from the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development.
According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, Marib Deputy Governor Abdu Rabbu Miftah and Najeeb Al-Sanwi, the Deputy Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training for Planning and Projects, attended the launch event.
Deputy Governor Miftah emphasized the strategic importance of the college in a province that is home to over 3 million residents and has received 62% of Yemen's displaced population. He stressed the need for professional training for youth to contribute to the labor market and development, expressing gratitude for Kuwait's support.
Al-Sanwi noted that this college is one of 12 community colleges in various Yemeni provinces that are being funded for equipment and furnishing by the Kuwait Fund, with a total investment of $60 million.
The college will feature 15 departments, including basic sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, and Graphic Design. The medical sciences division will offer five specialties: Dentistry, Anesthesia, Nursing and Midwifery, Physical Therapy, and Prosthetics. Additionally, the engineering sciences division will include four specialties: Gemstones, Mechatronics, Oil and Gas, and Medical Equipment Maintenance.
The project also includes the provision of two power generators and transportation means for the college. Al-Sanwi highlighted that companies have begun manufacturing the necessary equipment in 75 factories across 34 countries, and 450 teaching staff will be trained both domestically and abroad on modern equipment and its functionalities.
The inauguration was accompanied by the Dean of the Community College, Qaed Al-Muntaser, along with the Director of the Technical Education Office in the province, Naji Al-Hunaishi, his deputy, Naji Miftah, and the Assistant Director General of the provincial office, Abdul Rabah Hulais.
