On Sunday, November 24, 2024, the "Marib Gathering Conference" underscored the necessity of liberating all districts in Marib Governorate and involving local tribes and civil society in any future peace plans.
This statement came during a meeting with Anthony Hayward, the political and military advisor to the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, and his accompanying delegation, as part of efforts to promote dialogue, peace, and stability in Marib, according to a statement received by Bran Press.
Sheikh Abdulhaq bin Ali al-Qabli Nimran, President of the Marib Gathering Conference, welcomed Hayward and his team, providing an overview of the conference's role as a unifying platform for social and political forces in the governorate.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General of the conference, Sheikh Abdulkarim bin Haider, presented the organizational structure of the conference and its goals to support Marib's stability and enhance its participation in any comprehensive peace process.
The conference leadership shared its vision of Marib as a critical pillar for achieving comprehensive and sustainable peace, emphasizing the importance of including the governorate in all negotiations and decisions regarding Yemen's future.
The discussions also addressed the key challenges facing Marib, including the influx of displaced persons, military escalation, and the need to strengthen security and social stability.
According to the statement, the conference leadership highlighted the urgency of liberating the districts, asserting that any peace solutions must align with the three reference points.
In response, Anthony Hayward expressed appreciation for the Marib Gathering Conference's efforts to unify and strengthen social cohesion, reiterating the UN's commitment to listening to all active parties, including tribal and social entities in Marib, to ensure a comprehensive and just peace that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordinating and consulting to ensure that Marib's voices are represented in international forums, emphasizing that sustainable peace begins with achieving justice and development for all Yemenis.
