On Monday, November 25, 2024, Rashad Al-Alimi, the Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, met with U.S. Special Envoy Timothy Lenderking and U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagin to discuss the necessary support for the Yemeni economy.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Presidential Council member Othman Mejalli, both sides addressed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, along with U.S. assistance aimed at improving living conditions and mitigating the humanitarian impact of Houthi attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes.

According to the Yemen News Agency Saba, Al-Alimi received an update from Lenderking regarding potential regional and international changes following the recent U.S. elections.

Lenderking also highlighted his recent efforts to de-escalate tensions and explore options to encourage the Houthi movement, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization, to engage seriously in United Nations-led peace initiatives.

In the meeting, Al-Alimi reaffirmed the council and government's commitment to a comprehensive and just peace based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed references, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

He expressed gratitude for the United States' support for the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership, as well as for its humanitarian and developmental interventions across various sectors. He emphasized the need for increased international efforts to enforce the UN Security Council's resolution banning the export of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia.
