Al-Jawf, Yemen – On Monday, November 24, 2024, tribal sources reported the death of a prominent Houthi leader, known as Abu Kamal Al-Jabali, in Al-Jawf province, northeastern Yemen. This marks the second such incident in the region this month.
According to the sources, Al-Jabali was killed by a tribal gunman on Sunday, avenging the death of a relative who had been killed during a raid conducted by the Houthi leader months earlier in the Bani Nof tribe's territories, aimed at coercing locals into paying extortion fees.
Residents of Al-Jawf have accused the deceased leader of engaging in "dangerous practices" that resulted in the deaths of several locals and travelers, as well as the kidnapping and torture of many individuals. He was reportedly responsible for leading armed groups that enforced taxes on vehicles traveling from government-controlled areas, employing tactics such as kidnapping, torture, extortion, and demanding ransoms from the families of victims or their businesses.
The sources noted that Al-Jabali was considered a wanted individual by Yemeni government forces due to his actions, while several tribes had vowed to take revenge for the hardships he caused them.
Earlier this month, Al-Jawf witnessed the assassination of another Houthi leader, known as Abu Ali, who was killed along with a companion in a public market, following an attack by tribal gunmen avenging the death of a relative allegedly linked to Abu Ali.
