Rome, Italy – On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the internationally recognized Yemeni government emphasized the urgent need for collective actions to combat the Houthi threat, including measures to prevent arms smuggling and activate the inspection mechanisms established by the UN Security Council.

This statement was made by Yemen’s Foreign Minister, Shaya Al-Zindani, during a session focused on Red Sea security and the protection of strategic checkpoints at the 10th Mediterranean Dialogues Forum held in Rome.

According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, Minister Al-Zendani highlighted the importance of enhancing regional and international cooperation to support the Yemeni government in ensuring safe navigation in the Red Sea.

He noted that the Houthi group, supported by Iran, poses a threat not only to Yemen's stability but also to international peace and security, as well as the freedom of maritime navigation and global trade.

Al-Zindani urged the international community to provide economic, developmental, and security support to the Yemeni government, particularly in strengthening its coastguard capabilities to secure maritime freedom.

He asserted that "securing the Red Sea and protecting its maritime routes is a shared responsibility," adding that supporting Yemen in addressing its security and developmental challenges benefits everyone. He emphasized that backing Yemen's legitimate government represents an investment in regional and global stability.

The minister arrived in Rome on Sunday to participate in the high-level Mediterranean Dialogues Forum, scheduled from November 25 to 27. He is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with counterparts and officials to discuss the situation in Yemen and strengthen relations with friendly nations.
