On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Sultan Al-Barakani, the Speaker of the Yemeni Parliament, emphasized the urgent need for the new U.S. administration to exert "real pressure" on the Houthi militia to halt its rebellion and criminal activities. He stated that such actions are essential for the security of Yemen, the region, and the world, and crucial for restoring the Yemeni state.

Al-Barakani made these remarks during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, where they discussed the latest developments in Yemen and ongoing regional and international efforts to achieve peace.

According to Yemen's official news agency Saba, the discussions addressed a range of economic, service, and security challenges facing the Yemeni people, particularly the humanitarian impacts of Houthi attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes.

The Speaker highlighted the severe economic and humanitarian difficulties inflicted on Yemenis by the Houthi militia, including the seizure of rights, illegal taxation, and the plundering of national resources.

Al-Barakani underscored the importance of the United States as a key partner in promoting peace and combating terrorism in Yemen and the broader region. He described the Houthi militia as an extension of Iran's efforts to convert Yemen from a democratic state into a sectarian one.

He reiterated the Yemeni government's commitment to a comprehensive and just peace based on agreed national, regional, and international references, stressing the need for intensified international efforts to enforce the UN Security Council resolution banning the export of Iranian weapons to the Houthis.

In response, Ambassador Fagin condemned the Houthi violations of human rights and freedoms, denouncing their brutal actions that harm Yemen, the region, and global trade. He reassured that the U.S. administration remains committed to supporting Yemen's legitimacy and efforts to stabilize the region.

Fagin confirmed that the U.S. position on ensuring the security, stability, and unity of Yemen remains steadfast and is a priority for the highest levels of the American administration.
