The Republic of Yemen expressed its approval of the recent ceasefire agreement in Lebanon on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, calling it an important step toward reducing tensions, facilitating the return of displaced persons, and alleviating the suffering of the Lebanese people.

In a statement from the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government praised the international efforts that led to the ceasefire, as reported by Yemen's official news agency Saba.

At the same time, Yemen urged the international community to intensify efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need to ensure the safety, stability, and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international resolutions and laws.

On Tuesday evening, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the governments of Lebanon and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire proposal, which would take effect at 4 a.m. local time on Wednesday. In his address from the White House, Biden described the agreement as "good news," stating that the ceasefire would halt fighting along the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Biden explained that Lebanese military and security forces would take control of southern Lebanon within 60 days, while Israel would gradually withdraw its troops from the area. He confirmed that the United States, along with France and other allies, would work with both countries to ensure the full implementation of the agreement.

In relation to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Biden revealed new efforts involving Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Israel to establish a ceasefire, noting that Hamas has one option: to release hostages, including American citizens.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced the approval of the ceasefire by the Israeli security cabinet, stating that it would provide relief for Israeli forces and disrupt ties between Hezbollah and Hamas. He warned that Israel would resume military operations if Hezbollah acted against them.

In the hours before the ceasefire announcement, Israel intensified airstrikes on Beirut and surrounding areas, resulting in numerous casualties. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has led to significant loss of life, with reports indicating around 149,000 Palestinians killed or injured since the escalation began on October 7, 2023. Israeli operations have also resulted in thousands of casualties in Lebanon, with extensive displacement recorded.
