The Yemeni Ministry of Civil Service and Insurance announced on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, that a public holiday will be observed on Sunday, December 1, 2024, for all public service units in both central and local authorities, in celebration of the 57th anniversary of National Independence Day on November 30.
In a statement published by the official Saba news agency, the ministry clarified that this holiday replaces the regular Saturday off, as it falls on the day after Independence Day. The announcement is based on Article 3 of Law No. 2 of 2000, which defines official holidays.
Every year on November 30, Yemenis commemorate Independence Day, marking the withdrawal of the last British soldier from southern Yemen in 1967.
