On Thursday, November 28, 2024, Sultan Al-Arada, a member of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, called for increased support for the Higher Medical Council to enable it to perform its duties independently and effectively, in accordance with relevant regulations.
This directive came during his meeting with Dr. Omar Zain Al-Suqaf, the head of the Higher Medical Council, in Marib City, as reported by the official Yemeni news agency Saba.
During the meeting, Al-Arada emphasized the council's crucial role in addressing deficiencies in the healthcare sector, ensuring the quality of medical services, and protecting citizens from medical errors and misconduct.
He praised ongoing efforts to verify health certificates and assess the skills of healthcare workers before issuing professional licenses, highlighting that these measures contribute to enhancing the sector's efficiency and safeguarding public health.
In turn, Dr. Al-Suqaf outlined the achievements of the Higher Medical Council since its reformation last year, detailing the significant efforts made to rectify major medical deficiencies within the healthcare system.
He noted that the problems in the healthcare sector have worsened over the past decade, with numerous illegal practices, including the forgery of certificates and the lack of accredited training curricula in many medical training centers, resulting in poorly qualified graduates.
Dr. Al-Suqaf stated that the council is committed to rectifying these issues, verifying the credentials of healthcare workers, assessing their competencies, and streamlining the licensing process for healthcare institutions and professionals through newly established medical committees in the provinces.
