On Friday, November 29, 2024, former Vice President Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar stated that the independence flag that flew in Aden on November 30, 1967, is the same flag that now represents the unified Republic of Yemen.
In a message shared on the official account of al-Ahmar on X, reviewed by Barran Press, he congratulated the Yemeni people on the 57th anniversary of the end of British colonial rule. He emphasized the significance of the flag, stating, “The flag of independence waved in beloved Aden on November 30, 1967, as a symbol of liberation and freedom, and today it flies across all of Yemen, united under the national flag of the Republic of Yemen since May 22, 1990.”
The Yemeni people will celebrate this anniversary on Saturday, November 30, marking the day when the last British soldier left southern Yemen, culminating years of struggle against both Imamate tyranny in the north and British occupation in the south.
On November 30, 1967, the last British soldier departed Aden after 129 years of colonial rule, following the outbreak of the October 14 Revolution in 1963, led by revolutionary figure Rajeh bin Ghaleb Labouza.
