Hama, Syria – Syrian opposition forces have begun their advance toward the city of Hama on Saturday, November 30, 2024, following their complete control over Idlib province and significant portions of Aleppo.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that opposition forces captured the city of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib on Saturday evening and subsequently gained control over several towns and villages in the Hama countryside. Key locations include Taybat al-Imam, Kafr Zita, Kafr Nabudah, Halfaya, Latamneh, Suran, Qalaat al-Mudiq, Karnaz, Maardis, Al-Hammamiyat, and Trameh, all situated in northern Hama.

Additionally, the opposition secured the strategic town of Morek, which lies along the crucial M5 international highway connecting Aleppo to Damascus. This advance places opposition forces approximately 20 kilometers from the city of Hama.

Clashes between armed opposition factions and forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad erupted in the western Aleppo countryside on November 27. The opposition forces quickly progressed into western Aleppo, capturing several areas, and entered the city of Aleppo on Friday afternoon, continuing their advance into the evening to seize large parts of the city.

By Saturday, opposition factions had established full control over Idlib province after capturing numerous sites, including the cities of Maaret al-Numan and Khan Sheikhoun.
