On Sunday, December 1, 2024, Ibrahim Haidan, Yemen's Interior Minister in the internationally recognized government, expressed his desire for European support, particularly in logistics and training programs, to enhance services for citizens and combat terrorist organizations.

This statement came during a meeting with a European Union delegation led by the EU Ambassador to Yemen, Gabriel Monuera Vinales. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the security sector, according to the Yemeni news agency Saba.

During the meeting, Haidan addressed the violations and crimes committed by the Houthis against civilians, stating, "The Houthi group, which is internationally classified as a terrorist organization, has no political or human rights agenda and operates as an agent for Iran alongside other terrorist organizations."

He also highlighted the dire conditions imposed by the group, which treats residents in areas under its control as hostages, imposing taxes and seizing citizens' salaries.

Haidan outlined the ministry's efforts to enhance security and stability, including a digital transformation initiative that incorporates biometric identification in national IDs. This system is intended to streamline data management, reduce fraud, and assist in law enforcement.

In response, the EU delegation reaffirmed its support for the Presidential Leadership Council and promised continued assistance to the Yemeni government and the Ministry of Interior through various training and support programs.

The EU delegation included the Dutch Ambassador, Janette Seppen; the German Ambassador, Hubert Beier; the Chairman of the French Opera House, Aymeric Bofilline; and the political officer for the EU mission, Claire Nanterre.
