On Monday, December 2, 2024, the United States condemned the recent Houthi attack on a popular market in the Maqbana district of western Taiz, Yemen, describing it as "horrific." The assault resulted in the deaths of six civilians and injuries to eight others.

In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen and shared on its official social media account, monitored bt Barran Press, the U.S. denounced the "brutal attack" as yet another example of the Houthis' reckless disregard for human life.

The statement reaffirmed the United States' solidarity with the Yemeni people in their fight against such "reckless and violent actions." It emphasized the U.S. commitment to supporting Yemen in its pursuit of a secure, peaceful, and prosperous future.

According to local sources, the December 1 drone attack was carried out by the Houthi movement, which is internationally recognized as a terrorist organization, targeting the market in the Al-Barasha area of western Taiz.

The U.S. government reiterated its intention to continue providing support to the Yemeni people in their struggle for justice and human rights.
