Local sources reported on Monday, December 3, 2024, that a citizen has died in a hospital in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, from injuries sustained in a shooting incident last Friday in Jaar, located in the Khawlan district of Abyan province.

The victim, identified as Saddam Saif Mohammed Al-Zurayqi, succumbed to his injuries at Al-Arabi Hospital in Aden. He was shot by an armed individual named Mohammed Nasser Shattal while working at a local shop in Jaar. Another worker who was shot is still receiving treatment in a hospital in Aden.

According to sources speaking to Barran Press, the assailant remains at large, while Khawlan police are reportedly pressuring the victim's family to hand him over, as some family members are allegedly involved in aiding his escape from the crime scene.

Additionally, the victim's family has placed his body in Al-Jumhuriya Hospital in Aden, stating they will not proceed with his burial until justice is served. They are calling on security forces to expedite the arrest of the shooter and ensure that he is brought to justice.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among residents of Jaar, who condemned the crime and demanded increased security measures to curb the rising lawlessness and proliferation of firearms that are threatening public safety.
