On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that Italy has decided to appoint an ambassador to Yemen to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government, which has its temporary capital in Aden, southern Yemen.

During an event in Rome, Tajani stated, "To support the legitimate government in Yemen, we decided in the recent Cabinet meeting to appoint an Italian ambassador to send a message of rapprochement with the legitimate authorities in the country."

Tajani also expressed support for the European Union's military mission in the Red Sea, known as "Aspides," according to Anadolu Agency. He noted the implications of Iran's actions in the region, asserting, "When Iran realizes that continuing its attacks will not benefit it, the Houthis will also cease their assaults."

On February 19, the European Union announced the launch of its maritime operation "Aspides" to protect commercial vessels in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks in Yemen.
