On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, tribal sources reported that the Houthi movement, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, is preventing the entry of domestic gas supplies from Marib into areas under their control in the southern Marib Governorate.
According to the sources speaking to Barran Press, Houthi security checkpoints along the Al-Juba road are blocking the transport of food and gas supplies from the government-controlled city of Marib into Houthi-held districts.
Residents are reportedly being forced to empty their gas cylinders into the air at these checkpoints in order to gain passage and return to their homes. On Wednesday, a driver transporting food supplies was compelled to return to Marib and empty his cargo before being allowed to enter his village.
The sources noted that citizens are reluctant to speak out about these incidents for fear of reprisals from Houthi forces.
A circulating video obtained by “Barran Press” shows several gas cylinders being emptied at a Houthi security checkpoint in southern Marib, with a Houthi fighter shouting that the entry of gas from Marib is "prohibited."
