The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning issued a warning on Saturday, December 7, 2024, regarding the continuation of frost, known locally as "ad-Dharib," in several mountainous provinces of Yemen in the coming hours.
In its daily bulletin, seen by Barran Press, the center reported that frost formation is expected in the provinces of Sana'a, Dhamar, Saada, Amran, and Al-Bayda, with cold to very cold weather conditions.
The center indicated that the expected minimum temperature in Sana'a will drop to two degrees Celsius for the first time this winter season, with temperatures in Dhamar, Amran, Saada, and Al-Bayda reaching three degrees.
Cold weather is also anticipated in the elevated areas of Al-Dhale, Ibb, Taiz, Lahij, Abyan, and Shabwa, with conditions shifting between clear and partly cloudy during the day.
Additionally, the center mentioned the possibility of cumulonimbus clouds and mist or fog forming in parts of the highlands of Saada, Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, and Raymah during the night and early morning hours.
Coastal areas are expected to experience mostly clear to partly cloudy weather, with rain clouds likely over the Socotra Archipelago. Moderate to brisk winds are forecasted along the western coast and the entrance to Bab al-Mandab, with speeds ranging from 15 to 25 knots.
In desert regions, the center predicts mostly clear conditions with a slight chill during the night and early morning, accompanied by moderate winds that may occasionally stir dust and sand during the day.
The National Center for Meteorology urged farmers to take necessary precautions and follow agricultural guidelines to protect their crops, as well as to safeguard livestock, beekeeping, and poultry from the impacts of severe cold.
Furthermore, the center warned against exposure to cold weather in mountainous areas, advising citizens, particularly children, school students, the elderly, and workers, to take necessary precautions during the nighttime and early morning hours.
