On Sunday, December 8, 2024, Rashad Alimi, the head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, described the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime as a "historic moment" that affirms the Syrian people's right to reject foreign guardianship.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Alimi congratulated the "great Syrian people" on the liberation of their country, expressing hope for its reintegration into the Arab fold and its active participation in regional and international affairs.

Alimi emphasized, "It is time for the Iranian regime to remove its hand from Yemen, to respect its sovereignty and identity, and to empower its people to build their state and create the better future they deserve."

Earlier that day, opposition factions entered Damascus and took control of the capital as government forces withdrew from public institutions and streets, marking the end of a 61-year era of Ba'ath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family leadership.

The developments followed intense battles that began on November 27, 2024, between Syrian government forces and opposition factions in western Aleppo. The opposition was able to gain control over Aleppo and Idlib, subsequently seizing cities such as Hama, Daraa, Sweida, Homs, and finally, Damascus.
