On December 10, 2024, an open Women's Day event took place in Marib, northeastern Yemen, coinciding with the United Nations' 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, themed "Violence Against Women Costs Society."
Organized by the Women and Child Department of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, with support from the United Nations Population Fund, the event honored a group of pioneering women in the province, recognizing their efforts in advocating for women's rights and empowerment across various fields. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to active women and protection officials from several civil society organizations.
During the event, Abdul Hakim Al-Qaisi, Director of the Social Affairs and Labor Office, emphasized the critical role of women in society and the importance of empowering them to contribute to community building and development.
Al-Qaisi noted that the event reflects the government's and local authority's commitment to women's rights and their rightful place in society.
Saqat Al-Baqma, Director of the Women and Child Department, elaborated on the day's program, which included an exhibition of women's artwork showcasing their realities, struggles, and aspirations.
Al-Baqma also highlighted a section of the exhibit dedicated to displaying various women-made products, emphasizing the skills they have acquired to improve their livelihoods and support their families. The program featured artistic performances and recreational competitions aimed at raising awareness about violence against women and fostering collaborative efforts to find lasting solutions to this issue.
