On December 13, 2024, local sources reported heightened tensions in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen, following a raid by Shabwa Defense Forces on a village in the Radoum district. The operation resulted in the abduction of two local residents, who were taken to the Emirati military camp in Balhaf.
According to tribal sources speaking to Brān Press, the young men were released after tribal pressure, but the Al-Qasha'ir Al-Lahanf tribe continues to demand reparations for the incident and recognition for the two men who were taken from their homes.
In response, tribal members have blocked the coastal road in eastern Shabwa, preventing trucks from passing due to the refusal of Shabwa Defense Forces and Emirati troops at the Balhaf camp to acknowledge the tribe's grievances.
The Al-Qasha'ir tribe is demanding an immediate response regarding the invasion of their homes and the prior abduction of their members, emphasizing the lack of accountability despite the release of the young men.
Haadi Al-Khorma, the director of Radoum district, condemned the incident as a "crime against civilians" and criticized the indiscriminate raids that terrorized families, especially women and children, sparking fear among the local population.
In a circulated statement, Al-Khorma emphasized that such actions pose a "clear threat to the social and tribal values" of the community and stressed the necessity of respecting the dignity and security of citizens. He called for accountability for those responsible for the raid, noting that such violations do not foster social peace but rather escalate tensions in the region.
The military operation took place in the village of Basafaq early Wednesday, where the two young men, Musa and Haroun Haidar Al-Qasha'ri, were abducted and taken to the Emirati camp in Balhaf, which has been a base for Emirati forces since the beginning of the Arab Coalition's operations against the Houthi movement, designated as a terrorist organization internationally.
