"Masam" Reports Removal of Over 472,000 Landmines Since Project Launch

On December 16, 2024, Osama Al-Qusabi, the Director General of the Masam project, announced that the initiative has successfully removed 472,688 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) since its inception until December 13. These explosive devices were reportedly planted by the Houthi movement, which is classified as a terrorist organization.

In a statement released by the Masam media office, Al-Qusabi detailed that the teams have removed 312,075 unexploded munitions and 8,170 IEDs. Additionally, the project has cleared 145,758 anti-tank mines and 6,685 anti-personnel mines.

He noted that Masam's engineering teams have managed to de-mine 62,808,362 square meters of Yemeni land that had been contaminated with these hazardous materials.

United Nations reports indicate that approximately two million landmines have been planted by the Houthis in various regions they have occupied, resulting in over 20,000 civilian casualties, the majority of whom are women and children. rights reports accuse the Houthis of turning Yemen into the largest minefield globally, as they have reportedly sown more than two million mines.
