Local sources reported on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, that an elderly man was injured by a landmine explosion, which they attributed to remnants of the Houthi group, internationally classified as a terrorist organization, in Hajjah Governorate (northwestern Yemen).

According to the Ministry of Defense's website "September Net," the landmine exploded while the elderly man, Thabit Jalhuf, was herding livestock in the village of Al-Jada in Midi District, northwestern Hajjah Governorate.

The landmine, a remnant of the Houthi group, caused the amputation of Jalhuf's legs.

Last Saturday, December 14, a human rights monitor reported that a child was injured by an explosive device in Hajjah Governorate, planted by the Houthi group. The Yemeni Landmine Monitor stated on "X" , monitored by Barran Press, that "the child (Adel Mohammed Malhi Kadeesh, 13 years old) sustained multiple injuries, including the amputation of his left hand, due to an explosive device disguised as a toy planted by the Houthis in Abs District, Hajjah Governorate."

The source explained that the device was found by the child while herding sheep in the Al-Mahsam area of Bani Hassan in Abs District, Hajjah Governorate.

UN reports indicate that the Houthi group has planted approximately two million landmines in various areas under their control, resulting in the deaths and injuries of over 20,000 civilians, most of whom are women and children.

While human rights reports accuse the Houthis of "turning Yemen into the largest minefield ever by planting more than two million landmines," human rights organizations repeatedly call on the Houthi group to hand over maps of the landmines they planted to organizations working in mine clearance.
