Marib, Yemen – On December 17, 2024, Dr. Abdu Rabbu Miftah, the Deputy Governor of Marib, reaffirmed the local government's readiness to provide all necessary support to partners implementing humanitarian interventions in the region. He emphasized the importance of conducting these efforts transparently and impartially to alleviate the suffering of both displaced persons and host communities.
This commitment was made during a meeting with Mohammed Takwi, the Country Director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), where they discussed the organization's humanitarian initiatives in Marib over the past years and its project plans for the upcoming year.
According to the official Marib website, the meeting reviewed the current humanitarian situation in the province, highlighting the urgent need for more interventions in food security, water, shelter, health, education, and environmental sanitation.
Dr. Miftah stressed the importance of focusing on interventions that promote recovery, development, and reconstruction while commending the IRC's humanitarian contributions in Marib during previous periods.
He expressed the local authority's desire to expand partnerships with the organization to address the growing humanitarian needs stemming from continued displacement, deteriorating humanitarian and economic conditions, and climate change.
Mr. Takwi noted that his visit aimed to strengthen collaboration with the local authority, assess humanitarian needs, and explore how the IRC could contribute in the coming year to help mitigate the ongoing crisis. He praised the local government's facilitation of the organization's operational efforts and approved humanitarian projects.
