The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning announced on December 18, 2024, that extremely cold weather conditions are expected to continue in the coming hours, with temperatures in Dhamar province predicted to drop to two degrees below zero.
In its latest weather report, monitored by Barran Press, the center forecasted severe cold across mountainous regions including Al-Bayda, Dhammar, Sana'a, Amran, Saada, and the highlands of Ibb, Al-Dhale, and western Al-Jawf, with the possibility of frost formation in these areas.
The center indicated that cold weather is also expected in the highlands of Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, Raymah, and Taiz, with Dhammar anticipated to experience lows of two degrees below zero and Al-Bayda reaching one degree below freezing.
Coastal areas are forecasted to have partly cloudy to clear conditions, with light rain expected in parts of the Socotra Archipelago. Moderate to brisk winds are anticipated, reaching speeds of up to 23 knots in the southern Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, the Socotra Archipelago, and eastern coastal regions.
In desert areas, generally clear, dry, and somewhat dusty conditions are expected, with cool temperatures at night and early morning. Winds may be brisk, with gusts exceeding 20 knots.
The National Center for Meteorology has warned citizens about the cold and extremely cold weather during nighttime and early morning hours, particularly advising caution for the elderly, children, and those with health conditions.
Farmers are urged to take precautions against the severe cold and to implement measures to protect their crops. Livestock owners, beekeepers, and poultry farmers are also advised to ensure their animals are sheltered in warm and safe environments. The center cautioned about dusty conditions in desert areas and parts of the interior plateaus.
