On December 22, 2024, the internationally recognized Yemeni government urged the global community to take decisive action in holding Houthi leaders accountable as "war criminals." The call comes amid escalating concerns over the systemic violations and atrocities committed against the Yemeni people since the conflict began in 2014.

In an official statement, Yemen's Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, emphasized the urgent need for justice and the enforcement of international law to protect victims and ensure accountability for those responsible for the crimes. "These violations affect every segment of society and cannot be ignored," he stated, insisting that Houthi leaders must face justice on an international stage.

Al-Eryani detailed the extensive abuses endured by Yemenis, highlighting severe acts of violence, including killings, kidnappings, torture, and the forced displacement of millions. He pointed out that critical infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, has been destroyed, exacerbating the suffering of those living under Houthi control, particularly in cities like Taiz, which has faced a harsh blockade.

He also condemned the Houthi militia for targeting women, with thousands of reported cases of abduction, enforced disappearances, and sexual violence. Additionally, he criticized the group's forced recruitment of tens of thousands of children and the use of landmines in populated areas, leading to countless civilian casualties.

“Yemenis will not forget the Houthi militia's horrific record of crimes,” Al-Eryani declared, stressing that the quest for justice remains unwavering. He called for a comprehensive blacklist of Houthi leaders involved in these atrocities, advocating for their prosecution in international courts.

Earlier that evening, a widespread online campaign dubbed "Houthi Thugs" launched to expose Houthi leaders implicated in crimes against Yemenis since the group's coup against the state. Activists and journalists behind the campaign aim to compile a list of Houthi leaders for potential international prosecution and to pressure the international community for stronger sanctions.
