Residents in Lahj, Yemen, reported on December 23, 2024, that a school building in the Al-Maqatra district is on the verge of collapse, posing a serious threat to the lives of over 800 students.
According to locals speaking to "Barran Press," the roof of several classrooms at Al-Nahda Basic and Secondary School in the village of Al-Jamruk has begun to cave in, raising fears of a potential disaster.
The school, which has been the sole educational facility in the area for more than 40 years, has deteriorated significantly, with crumbling walls and a structure that is no longer safe for learning. Community members expressed frustration over the lack of government response to their repeated requests for repairs, emphasizing that the building is beyond restoration.
Teacher Abdu Saeed Nasser stated that despite the urgent need for a safe learning environment, the school has been unfit for teaching for years, yet students continue to attend out of necessity.
Nasser highlighted the urgency of the situation, calling for immediate action from local authorities and organizations to address the dire conditions. He stressed that the educational process has become increasingly dangerous, with parents living in fear of the building collapsing on their children.
