On December 24, 2024, the Executive Unit for Managing Displaced Persons Camps in Marib, northeastern Yemen, convened to address the worsening humanitarian situation and the growing gap in needs. The meeting focused on the humanitarian response plan designed to alleviate the suffering of the local population and displaced individuals.
Director of the Executive Unit, Saif Muthna, met with Kamel Sadiq from the Global Humanitarian Organization and Khaled Abdullah Qassem, head of Together for Children Foundation, to discuss strategies for enhancing humanitarian efforts.
Muthna highlighted the negative impact of dwindling international funding, economic decline, and climate change on the humanitarian conditions of both the displaced and the host community in Mareb, which accommodates over 62% of Yemen's displaced populations. He noted that ongoing displacement has exacerbated the challenges in meeting essential needs.
The local authority has been burdened by the humanitarian demands that exceed its capabilities, struggling to improve infrastructure and provide emergency assistance during disasters.
During the meeting, Muthna presented the humanitarian response plan for 2024-2025, which includes developmental interventions and sustainable projects aimed at meeting the needs of both the displaced and the host community. He expressed hope for increased humanitarian interventions and funding from international organizations to address the escalating crisis.
Representatives from the German organizations clarified that their visit aims to assess the humanitarian situation and explore ways to contribute to alleviating the suffering of displaced persons and strengthening humanitarian partnerships with local authorities and the executive unit.
